Information Systems MS Student

Cornell Tech, Cornell University

I'm currently a second-year master's student at Cornell Tech studying Information Systems with a concentration in Connective Media. Prior to Cornell, I graduated with dual B.S. degrees in Data Science from Duke Kunshan University and Duke University in May 2022. My interdisciplinary academic background inspired my research interest, which lies in the intersection of social computing and human-computer interaction.

I am passionate about using data-driven methods and human-centered design to improve healthcare and wellbeing in urban life. Through quantitative approaches like machine learning and data visualization, I hope to uncover insights from mass online data, discovering social aspects of technology that have been neglected. Then, with qualitative approaches like user research and synthesis, I hope to design and build technology that can address and improve critical issues in the field of healthcare and wellbeing in urban life.

Apart from research, I have experiences working in both big tech and startups, mainly as a product designer and manager. My portfolio on this website has several selected projects for you to check out. Feel free to reach out for possible collab, or just to tell me what you think! You can also find me on LinkedIn, Medium, and GitHub.

Since you've read this far, here are some fun facts about me: my name "Haitong" is made up of two different Chinese characters, in which "hai" means the sea, and "tong" represents the color red, like the rising sun. Dancing is my biggest hobby and to this day, I have been dancing for 20 years (and counting!). Other than that, you can find me visiting coffee shops and bookstores, walking around New York City, or writing random thoughts in my free time (or talking, I am always talking).
